On 2 September 1967, two years after Singapore’s Independence, the Singapore Government established the Singapore Commission in Hong Kong. This was renamed to the Singapore Consulate-General in Hong Kong after the return of Hong Kong to the People Republic of China in 1997.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Singapore’s official representation in Hong Kong, the Consulate hosted a dinner on 12 October 2017 and was honoured to have Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung as the Guest-of-Honour.
The dinner was also an event to feature Singapore’s culinary and artistic talent and Singapore-Hong Kong collaboration. We partnered with Michelin-starred Chef Jason Tan from Corner House Singapore, and Hotel ICON, the teaching hotel of the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. We also featured Singaporean jazz singer Ms Rani Singam (who recently sang the National Anthem at the opening of our Night Formula One race) and Hong Kong guitarist Mr Teriver Cheung to perform over dinner, as a symbol of Singapore-Hong Kong collaboration.
The dinner event was a huge success, and many were impressed by the culinary skills of Chef Jason Tan as well as the splendid performance by Ms Rani. Singapore and Hong Kong share excellent collaborative bilateral ties. We thank all of our friends who have contributed to our strong bilateral ties, and look forward to strengthening our partnership in many years to come.
